David Mamet forgetful and/or liar… Toynbee interview
Justin Duerr of Resurrect Dead, the Toynbee tile documentary, was recently interviewed for WHYY radio. If you have 5 minutes, [site here] [listen here]. Local News never fails to get a quote from someone on the street blaming space aliens for the tiles, but NPR got a quote from David Mamet!
The Mamet quote is another holy grail that can be checked off the wish-list of Toynbee tile research. In case you don’t know that bit of tile strangeness, in 1984 award-laden writer David Mamet wrote an off-broadway, 1 act play titled 4AM. It premiered right here in Philadelphia. The subject of the play is a radio call in show discussion between a Larry King-like character and a man proposing Resurrecting the dead on planet Jupiter through an idea of Arnold Toynbee and the movie 2001.
In the interview, Mamet said he thought up the idea up himself. As odd as this would be, it’s even odder (and here’s a disclosure here that’s only recently been made public) when it’s taken into account that according to Minority Association documents, the idea of Resurrecting the Dead on planet Jupiter through an idea of Arnold Toynbee and the movie 2001 was made public to the world during a 1980 radio call-in to the Larry King all-night radio show.
So either Mamet forgot where he got the idea, is a dirty liar, or is the Toynbee tiler. I’m not saying anything else here.
Oh! and one other thing. An extended version of this interview will be aired nationally(!) on NPR sometime soon.

I was wondering why I was even bothering to post here as I NEVER EVER seem to make any meaningful contact with anyone either in the flesh or on the Net when I try to communicate about anything like this - twice recently I have tried telling someone about these ideas and they have just totally ignored what I am saying and started talking about something else - the website postings never seem to get there or are ignored -but still did I just see something about “the Pink Floyd Sychronities” and even particle physics here a moment ago? Do you think it is actually possible that EVERYTHING is ENERGY - and. guess what, this includes us - and can neither be created or destroyed - only “changed”? Do you think this may account for so called “reincarnation”? I have just watched this video of Pink Floyd singing “Embryo” which ends up going into the “Echos” thing - do you think there might be any connection with the star child in 2001 here or am I yet again merely talking to myself?!!!
IF amazingly you contact me and are actually interested in what I am on about I will have to try and send you the above link - it won’t work right now - how amazing!

I agree that everything is energy and that our physical bodies coupled with our limited senses make what we understand as reality extremely limited and almost entirely illusionary. I’ve seen the 2001/Echos synch as well as many , many other synchs of my own, my friend’s and other’s discovery/creation. It was a fairly serious hobby of mine for a while.
BUT, with all that said the creator of the tiles was very, very likely dealing in physical resurrection. More of a Christ inspired resurrection of the flesh, the same physical molecules that make our bodies now. I don’t believe that this physicality rebirth was Kubrick’s ‘message’ in 2001, I see that more as a less physically constrained conception of pure or light energy/waveform/consciousness, whatever.
I’d definitely be interested in the link. Even if it doesn’t change my life or my beliefs I promise to read it. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

[…] Loyal readers will remember that Mamet made a similar claim on NPR’s Morning Edition late last year. Through the assumed credibility generated by nothing more than name recognition, Mamet threatens to assume the “Toynbee Idea” as his own. This is no idle threat. Cultural barometer Wikipedia.com has already begun to propagate the “Mamet falsehood.” […]

in an interview I read mamet claims 4am was based on larry kings pre CNN radio call in show
“This is the weirdest thing that ever happened. I wrote this play [called 4 am] about a million years ago that was an homage to Larry King when he was late night talk show host on radio in the 70’s. A guy calls in and he’s talking about the film 2001 based on the writings of Arnold Toynbee. The Larry King character says, “I think you’ll find that 2001 is based on the writings of Arthur C. Clarke.” The guy says, “No, Larry. I believe that you’re wrong there. 2001 based on the writing of Arnold Toynbee tells us that all human life will be reconstituted on the planet Jupiter.” They had this rather silly conversation for ten minutes. It turns out that now you can go on the internet and look up Toynbee tiles. There are these tiles that are showing up all over the country that say in mosaic “Toynbee says all life reconstituted on Jupiter.” You can go to these links and they’ll tell you how to make these tiles and where to put them up.”
