Calling Philadelphia Mural Photographers!

Do you want your photos hanging up at the Mural Arts Program main offices? Do you want them to be the first thing our guests see when they walk in the door? Do you want to get paid for it?

The Mural Arts Program at the Thomas Eakins House is redecorating its first floor hallway and gallery area. I’ve been asked to bring together a dozen of our best mural photos.

The fabulous Jack Ramsdale has been the Mural Arts Program’s official photographer for years. Several others – including myself – have done some work for them too. But as an internet user in this great city I know that there are many, many amazing photographers out there that have taken some incredible photos of this town’s 2700 murals.

I want to turn this space into a group show of city photographers and the beautiful murals they shoot. Write me at sweinik [at] muralarts (dot) org.

Here are some other details.

I was given this assignment as I walked out the door today and was told to bring it together by the end of the week. Since I decided I wanted to involve any random people out there, that gives me very little time to bring this together. This is moving very fast, so if interested, write me as soon as you can.

I don’t have the budget for this just yet. You won’t be paid pennies, but don’t expect $500 for your photo. Your talents will be appreciated and you will be compensated as well as we can currently afford.

You provide the print, we provide framing.

Please, only high quality images shot with a camera capable of producing a high quality print up to 12×18 or so.

Email me your submissions at the address above.

Vote tomorrow.

Any other questions, contact me or leave comments that I will answer publicly.

[...] Relatedly, if you love photographing Philly’s murals, Dragonballyee mentions today that the Mural Arts Program is taking submissions of photographed murals (and will pay, though they don’t say how much). Info here! [...]

Also, I was wondering whether you would be accepting any electronic submissions, with the idea of printing them on your end? Or actually, hm, I’m confused. You say that you want people to supply the print, but then you ask them to email submissions… are you looking for people to submit jpgs that they will then follow up on with a print?

I was thinking that for the initial ‘judging’ of photos a small version sent by email would be the best way to pool them together and decide on shots. Past that, if your photo is picked, you would provide a print. If it would be easier to deliver the digital file, we can do that too. Once we have all the prints, we’ll have them framed. I’ll need to figure out a way for you to sign them or acknowledge credit. But that comes later. Thanks!

wasn’t sure if you’re still looking for mural photos. If you search my flickr site (above) for Murals, I have several (see, for example, http://flickr.com/photos/moocat/310754631/). I’ve reproduced “Summer: The Meeting” as a large print & it worked out well, but my camera only shoots 5mg so not sure if that’s ok.
anyway, let me know if you still need photos & if you’re interested in any or if I should email them to you?

Can you confirm a report that the Mural Arts Program is driving a campaign to replace the “sports” murals on the columns at the Rt 1 underpass in East Falls? If so, I’d like to know the timeframe — some of us would like to photograph those murals before they change or vanish.
