accent quiz
People tell me I’ve got a strange accent, but apparently I’m just from Philadelphia. I took this short online quiz and here are my results:
| What American accent do you have? Your Result: Philadelphia
Your accent is as Philadelphian as a cheesesteak! If you’re not from Philadelphia, then you’re from someplace near there like south Jersey, Baltimore, or Wilmington. if you’ve ever journeyed to some far off place where people don’t know that Philly has an accent, someone may have thought you talked a little weird even though they didn’t have a clue what accent it was they heard. |

I have a Philly accent, too. It’s not pretty, but I’m still proud of it.
Cool blog!

I got the same result. We don’t have a weird accent, everyone else does. At least we pronounce different words differently (mostly). My husband looked at me like I was crazy when I told him many people outside the Philadelphia area pronounced Mary, merry and marry the same. I read a newsstory about a couple from the Northeast who moved to California; they were flummoxed that their twins, Don and Dawn, could not distinguish the difference in their own names. No difference between cot and caught in most of the US? -ugg. It sounds as if that broad, midwest (Illinois?) vowel-shifted accent is spreading (kyaaaat = cat - think Bob Woodward even after 30 some years in DC) - the least attractive accent in the US to my ears.
