Spring is Brutal
Out of the trees:

A little too soon:

It’s a normal reaction, but taking this last photo left me feeling very sad. I wrapped the baby bird in a shroud of litter and left it in a nest of dried pine needles in someone’s sidewalk flower box. There’s no place in the city to bury a baby bird. There’s nothing to eat it.

Sad.
I guess rats and/or cats would eat a dead bird in the city environment, but it’s more likely the body would just dry up and be eaten by microorganisms.
Anyway, the molecules still exist, they’ve just been reconfigured…… Toynbee tells us….

It was all very natural and clinical and aesthetic until I took the last photo. Even looking at it upsets me… which is odd. When I put it in the flowerpot, I thought about the impulse of preserving it in concrete.
